Choosing Songs - The importance of lyrics

As a musician the lyrics to songs are very important to me. As a couple getting married they should be equally important. In particular when choosing songs for the important events of your wedding day such as ceremony processional, register signing, recessional then onto your first dance, cake cutting etc.

Copyright laws do not permit me to display the lyrics to songs on my website without permission so let me just say there are some very popular tunes of which the lyrics are far from appropriate for a wedding ceremony.

U2's "One" for example is not about 2 people madly in love with each other and the same goes for Bon Jovi's "Always".
Bruno Mars sings about getting married as a less than romantic notion in one of his recent popular songs.

Take a moment to read the lyrics to a song before you make the decision to include it in your wedding. I am always happy to help or give any advice I can in regards to song choices but ultimately these are very personal choices that can mean a lot to many people and an inappropriate lyric can make for an awkward moment...you don't want to be halfway down the aisle when you realize what Bruno just said in the first verse of "Marry You".

Just some food for thought.
